Game report

Game started with actions on both sides. First goal of the game came in 11th minute. Markus Eisenschmid shot from the right side and Nyffeler didn´t save it. After few minutes Germany scored their second goal. Leon Draisaitl got in the solo breakaway and scored with the backhand shot.

Few shots came from Team Switzerland, but Klein could save them. In 18th minute one-timer shot by Leon Draisaitl came and it ended with another goal in Nyffeler´s net. It took only 41 seconds for Team Germany to score their fourth goal. Benjamin Zientek beat the Swiss goalie with the shot from the blue line. This fourth goal resulted in goalie change in Swiss team. Nyffeler was substituted by Schlegel.

In the first minute of the second period there was a chance by Team Switzerland. However, Klein stopped the puck, which was confirmed by the video-referee. Team Switzerland was quite active in the second period and even deserved to score, but Germans were against it. Swiss didn´t score even in their biggest chances. And that was punished by Team Germany. Sven Ziegler scored a goal with a slap shot.

In the third period Swiss ruined a few chances. Diem was in a good opportunity, but Klein saved it. Team Germany scored in the 51st minute. Tim Bender scored their sixth goal. Three minutes later the goal came by Swiss players. Fabrice Herzog managed to score the goal that was really deserved. And after five minutes Team Switzerland scored another goal. Dario Simion’s goal was confirmed by video referee of the game.

“We scored four goals in the first period. That helped us a lot and we deserved to win. Swiss were dangerous in the game, but we managed to stop high amount of their chances,” said Draisaitl, who scored two goals for Germans.

“We want to forget about last games and start from the beginning. We didn´t shoot well and the German goalie was really great,” commented on the game Martin Herzog, scorer of the first Swiss goal.

Reactions

Alfred Bohren (Head Coach of Team Switzerland):
We lost concentration and we weren´t good in defense. We improved our game a little bit in the second period but it was already decided about the winner of tonight´s match.

Jim Setters (Head Coach of Team Germany):
We´ve won because of the first period, of course. Team was concentrated and did what we wanted them to do. We had a lot of opportunities and gave the Swiss no chance. We took the game to them. We should score more goals. In second period we let them back to the game. Swiss had a tough tournament. They lost first game with Latvia. I´d been in that position before. It´s really difficult for a team and for a coach as well. They lost their self-confidence and so we were able to play on them. We played well and hard. After the loss with Latvia I knew we had a chance for quarterfinals. I didn’t know that we would score six goals but it makes it easy for coach´s heart.
